Tirunelveli to Tenkasi Optical Fibre Cable link commissioned

An Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) link between Tirunelveli Junction and Tenkasi Junction, established on an outlay of Rs. 2.20 crore, was commissioned here on Sunday. S. Manohar, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer, Southern Railway, formally inaugurated the facility in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager A.K. Rastogi at Tirunelveli Railway Junction. After the completion of the 72 km-long broad gauge conversion work, communication system in the Tirunelveli - Tenkasi section has been upgraded by providing optical fibre cable - 6 quad underground cable and state-of-the-art electronics and communication equipment. The new system provides quality communication — both voice and data transmission. Now, it is possible to extend railway auto telephones, data circuits and all control circuits to as many stations as required, according to railway sources. This facility would result in annual savings of Rs. 3.80 lakh for the Railways. During an informal chat with reporters, Mr. Rastogi said that the trains announced in the Union Railway Budget would become operational in a phased manner.
